The Spherovelo has two riding settings - stable for first riders, then the clever bit comes when you remove the stabilising balls and it becomes 'tippy'. The child will use their sense of balance and equilibrium to keep themselves up and moving. But because these are spheres and not wheels, if they tip the wheel will simply relocate rather than fall over. Hence we call it 'safely unstable'. Clever.
